Five Easy Steps to Apply for the EMBA

DeathtoStock_Creative Community7You have being thinking about going back and getting your M.B.A. degree but have not made the first move. Now’s the time to apply. The Culverhouse College of Commerce Executive MBA Program at the University of Alabama has classes starting in December for the Tuscaloosa program, and August for the Huntsville program. Follow the five easy steps to start your application today.

1.Applicant Data Sheet:

The very first step in the application process is the UA Graduate School application. Make sure to specify “Executive Business Administration, MBA” as your major when filling out the application. This will insure we receive your application for review. For applicants who want to join the Tuscaloosa EMBA program, make sure to select “Spring 2016” as your Proposed Entrance Term, and “Fall 2016” for applicants to our Huntsville EMBA program.

Applications will be considered successfully submitted to the UA Graduate School when we receive your application fee. Until then, we cannot move forward with the application process. The fee is $50 for US citizens and permanent residents, and international applicants will need to pay $60. If you are a veteran or active duty military, contact Cheryl Altemara,, BEFORE filling out the application so we can waive the application fee for you.

2. Admissions Questions:

After filling out the application and paying your fee, you will need to submit responses to your admissions questions. This item takes the place of the Statement of Purpose (SOP) required by the UA Graduate School. If you haven’t received the questions from Cheryl, please contact her to get this simple word document you will need. You can upload your admissions questions responses to the documents manager section on your application (place the document in the section marked SOP) or send them as an email attachment to Cheryl,

3. Letters of Recommendation:

There are a few requirements for these recommendations. One of the letters must be from your direct supervisor. The second letter can be from someone else in your company, or even a client if you are self-employed! The letters can be mailed to the EMBA office, or they can be emailed to Cheryl Altemara. If emailed, they MUST be sent by the person who wrote the letter. Please make certain your recommenders have the correct email address, Letters can be written to “Cheryl” or to “UA EMBA.”

4. Send us your Info:

We want to know more about you! Your resume can be sent to us just like your admissions questions responses (as an email attachment) or can be uploaded to the Resume section using the documents manager on your online application. You can also give us your resume during your interview or email it directly to Cheryl,

We also will need transcripts from any undergraduate/graduate school where you have earned at least 15 credit hours. The transcripts must be sealed and mailed to the Graduate School Office, or emailed to through a secure form of electronic delivery.

Unless the GMAT or GRE is waived for you, you will need to sit for one of these exams. If you are submitting a GMAT or GRE score, make sure to have your scores sent to us at the University of Alabama. Our code is 1830. We accept a minimum score of 500 on the GMAT or 300 on the GRE. A waiver can be applied for if you have an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 and substantial management experience. Contact Cheryl to discuss the GMAT/GRE waiver option, or call 205.348.4501.

This is the fun part! The interview takes about an hour, and can be conducted in a few different ways. First, we can interview you at our office in Tuscaloosa, or Cheryl can meet you somewhere that is convenient for both of you. If a face-to-face interview is out of the question, she can also conduct a phone interview, although in person is preferred. During the interview we walk you through the program and answer any questions. This is also a time for us to find out more about you, your current job position, career path and goals.
